Intermediates Win Away at Bristol
The selectors had a difficult few days in the run-up to this match as too many players made themselves unavailable for the fixture by allowing their lives outside croquet to interfere. Nonetheless a team of Martin, Lynne, Margaret and Intermediate newcomer, Peter Hall, was assembled and made ready.
Sadly, on the morning of the match, Lynne was struck by an unpleasant illness so there were just 3 who set off for Bristol. Our opponents were extremely accommodating and it was agreed that 3 sets of 3 singles games – each of 2-hours & 18-points – would deliver a result and avoid the need for doubles. With a lunch interval and a cake interval, it certainly allowed us to get the most out of the day.
With 3 wins from 3 on his debut, Peter was clearly “man-of-the-match” and the Bath squad finished with a strong 7-2 win.
