Advanced AC Team Win at Bristol

An early start to avoid the rain was possible as Bath visited Bristol for their crunch Div 3 match with the Bristol C team in the League for Advanced Play.

Bristol C were unbeaten in their first two fixtures so not an easy place to go. All three morning games looked to be running away from Bath, though in the end captain Pete Miles squeezed out a narrow victory against Mike Salisbury and the doubles team of Roger Hayes/Philip de Glanville ran out eventual winners 18-13. In the final game, in form Bob Whiffen defeated Neil Pinker 26-8. So surprisingly 2-1 to Bath at lunch.

After lunch Pete Miles got off to a flying start against Bob Whiffen and should have wrapped up the game after only 1 hour. His short roquet miss resulted in a much longer game with Bob getting his first ball round to peg before Pete hit in to finish the game 26-14. With two games in the balance, Neil Pinker found some good form to see off Mike Salisbury 26-10 and clinch the overall result for Bath. In the final games Eric Soakell defeated Roger Hayes 26-8 and Philip de Glanville won the last game on time against Frances Ransom.

Final result 5-2 to Bath.
