GC C Level Series Tournament at Bath
The club hosted a round of the national CA GC C Level Tournament at the Rec on Thursday 27th July. The sixteen competitors, including a few last minute substitutes, came from as far afield as Chester, Budleigh and Tunbridge Wells with handicaps ranging from 6 to 11.. There were three Bath members taking part. The competitors were split into 4 blocks in the morning on an all play all basis. Anwen Owens and Sue Duncan both won their blocks with 3 wins out of 3. Ally Hoyland beat the eventual winner, her only loss of the day, in their block game. Sue Duncan won her quarter final against the 6 handicap Jill Bateman(Cheltenham) but then came up against Alastair Broom (6 handicap- Phyllis Court) to lose her semi-final. Sue was awarded 3rd place as her 3rd-4th play-off opponent declined to play as well as a reduction in handicap to 8. Anwen lost her quarter final against Karen Newbould (Bromley) but then beat her opponent in the 5th-8th round to again play Jill Bateman, who she had beaten in their morning block game, for 5th-6th place. This time Jill came out on top. The main final was won by Sarah Clements ( Chester – 6) beating Alastair Broom 7-4. The Plate competition (9th-16th) was won by Pat Coulter (Budleigh).
