GC All England Handicap Qualifier
Eight club members took part in the club’s qualifying event for the GC All England Handicap Competition on a very warm Monday 20 June. The entries were split into two all play all blocks in the morning. Block A consisted of Philip de Glanville, Sue Andrew, Sue Duncan and Christine Lutman. This was a very close competition with Philip, Sue A and Sue D all winning two games each. Philip topped the group with a nett hoop score of +6. The two Sues could not be separated on nett hoops so it came down to the game between them which Sue D won 6-5. In Block B the players were David Veal, Martin Alabaster (in his first GC tournament), Anwen Owens and Kate New. This block was more clear cut with Davide winning all 3 of his games and Kate, using her numerous extra strokes to good advantage winning two games.
In the afternoon Philip played Kate and after a close game won 7-5. In the other deciding game Sue Duncan won the last two hoops to beat David, also by 7-5. Due to the heat and the two qualifying places decided no further games were played. Philip and Sue will now represent Bath in the South West Area final, which is at the Rec on Sunday 14 August.
As a result of her good performance Kate is reserve for the area final and her handicap was reduced from 14 to 11 by Paul in his role as CA handicapper.
Thanks to Paul and Tony for managing, and refereeing when necessary, the days proceedings.
