Another win against Camerton
Bath seems to be enjoying quite a series of victories over Camerton & Peasedown CC this month. This time it was our Short Croquet (Restricted) team who prevailed, with a well-earned 11:5 win on the half-lawns at Camerton.
This time BCC fielded Paul Francis, Neil Pinker, Tony Jackson and debutante Sue Duncan, playing in her first ever competitive AC match. The joy of the ‘Restricted’ League is that two of the four in the team must have handicaps of AC16+, so as to encourage less experienced players, and Sue filled the bill very well. Having started playing AC only a few weeks ago, she quickly got the hang of using her bisques effectively and managed to beat two much more experienced players during the course of the afternoon. She and Tony, who also won two games, are proving to be invaluable (and essential) members of the Bath Short Croquet team!
Paul is clearly coming back into form and, even with his new SC ‘scratch’ handicap (which meant his having to play without bisques), won three of his four games, the last of which being a peerless demonstration of well-crafted breaks against Camerton’s strongest player that day. Meanwhile Neil had another great match, winning all four of his games again, with peg-outs. As a result his handicap has tumbled to AC12; this is remarkable progress for a player who only picked up a mallet for the first time less than a year ago, and bodes very well for the future.
Our next Short Croquet fixture is against Lym Valley at home on Sunday 12th June
