National Charity One-Ball Championship Final, Surbiton, Sunday 20 September
Tony Jackson and Richard Jelly represented the Bath Club on a hot Indian Summer day on the fast but surprisingly imperfect lawns of Surbiton Croquet Club. Our Club had held one of twenty-two heats totalling 214 players. On the day twenty-four players with handicaps ranging from -5 to 20 played 8 matches each, the finalists playing a ninth which was won Michael Broadway (HC 12) of Watford. Among the also rans were Tony J (won 4 lost 4) and Richard J (won 5 lost 3) both beating a -3 handicap. The atmosphere was relaxed apart from some A class players who seemed to take it all rather seriously, the lunch excellent, and the event was well organised by our hosts. All great fun. Importantly, the event raised £4,196 for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
