Budleigh Salterton Autumn Short Lawns Tournament
The club entered two teams for the Autumn Budleigh Salterton Short Lawns Tournament.
On an extremely wet and windy Friday morning Mary Bertin, Leonie Wilkinson, Tony Jackson and Lynne Passfield, the Bath ‘B’ short lawns team, travelled to Budleigh Salterton for the SWF short lawns tournament. Waterproofs, a spare set of clothes and nourishing lunch were all packed in the back of the car for the journey. The morning session brought mixed fortune for the team who battled high winds and driving rain to win four games. Following a relaxing lunch mingling with players from nine other clubs, the team left the clubhouse for the afternoon session the rain having eased.
The lawns played well and our games were closely fought. In the final round Lynne was two hoops behind and came onto the lawn after time for her final play of the game. She hit in from length to make three hoops to win her match. Making the overall score eight wins for Bath. Congratulations to Tony, playing in his first short lawns tournament, who won all of his games.
The team, see photo below, ended a most enjoyable day in joint second place, the division having been won by Budleigh Salterton.
On the Saturday the clubs ‘A’ team of Daniel Gott, Roger Hayes, Paul Francis and Philip de Glanville found themselves giving many bisques to the opposition as well as having to do mandatory peels in the case of Daniel and Roger. This made life difficult for the team and they finished in third place in their division.
Both teams maintained their positions in their respective divisions for next year.
