Whitaker the Hero in Qualifier Win
Bath recorded a remarkable victory away at Cheltenham on Saturday 24th June 2006, winning by 3 matches to 2.
All 3 members of the team played surperbly on the day on Cheltenham’s high quality lawns.
Daniel Mills (2.5) beat Carol Smith (2) +17 in the morning, after getting to 4 back and peg before Carol had managed to get started.
Peter Hanley (4) and Bob Whitaker (10) put up a good fight against Michael Rangley (2.5) and Bo Harris (4) in the doubles before finally going down -9 on time. Peter Hanley in particular had an excellent game, continuely hitting in across the lawn.
In the afternoon, Carol Smith played extremely well as Peter Hanley went down -24 without really getting a chance to get into the game.
Bob Whitaker forged ahead of Bo Harris right from the start, playing to a level well above his handicap. He won comfortably by +14 in just under 2 hours. A fantastic performance.
In the other match, Michael Rangley went straight to 4 back against Daniel Mills after a costly error by the Bath player at hoop 1. However Daniel fought back well to win by +11 and seal Bath’s excellent 3-2 win.
