Nail Biting Finish to GC North Match at Nailsea
The GC North Handicap team played their second match of the season at Nailsea last Saturday. After sharing the opening doubles matches the Club took a two point lead after the first round of singles due to wins by Elaine Morrison, Peter Riley and Tony Curson. The next three rounds of matches were shared and the score was 9-7 to Bath going into the last round. Tony Curson and Alistair Byford-Bates, who won his other two singles matches on his debut for the team, both lost to tie the scores. This left the two matches on lawn 3 to decide the outcome. Elaine won her match 7-5 to mean the team could not lose the match. In the final match Miriam Bolger came back from 5-1 down to draw her match 6-6 when time ran out whilst playing the golden hoop.Final score 10.5-9.5 to Bath. This result leaves the club at the top of the table with two wins out of two, albeit these are the only matches reported to date.
