Promotion for AC Advanced Team
Braving the hottest day of the year, the Bath croquet team visited Exeter for their final match in the league for advanced play, division 3. Home advantage for Exeter had an extra edge with lawns under regulation size, however this proved no obstacle to David Prescott who managed to overcome Mark Macnair narrowly to win the first game. Despite a reasonable start in the doubles Pete Miles and Neil Pinker were both off their game with too many errors, resulting in a close game lost on time. After some welcome shade from the sun, the afternoon singles commenced. David Prescott won easily against John Crowley 26-5, his game ending only a few minutes before captain Pete Miles won his game against Adam Wimshurst 26-1 after some immaculate play. The win was secured and released from the pressure in the last game, Neil Pinker also found better form winning narrowly against Mark Macnair despite being the higher handicap player. So a convincing win to Bath 4-1 which wraps up the division title ending undefeated this season. Next year it will be division 2!
