GC B Level Tournament at Bath
The club hosted a round of the CE national GC B Level, handicap 3+, on Thursday. The 16 competitors came from as far afield as Colchester, Downham Market, Guildford, Budleigh and Sidmouth. Three Bath members were also taking part. The morning session consisted of four blocks each with 4 players. In Block A Sally Helvey started off well with wins in her first two games, including one against Bob Hart to finish in 2nd position in the block with Bob in 3rd position. Anwen Owens was in block B and won one of her 3 games, including a close 7-6 loss to a 2 handicap player ,which resulted in 3rd place in the block. In the afternoon main knock out Sally finished in 8th position. Bob and Anwen went into the plate knockout and finished in 11th and 16th positions. All three Bath members, all 5 handicap, were competing against lower handicap players. The main competition was won by Stephen Harbron (Ealing) and the plate competition by Martin Strange (Winterborne Valley).
Thanks to Martin Leach for acting as referee, David Veal as Managers helper, Lynne and Valerie for refreshments and car parking and Tony for managing the tournament. The excellent cakes were provided by Sally, Anwen and Lynne.
