Hamptworth Two Class GC Level Tournament

Anwen Owens and Tony Curson opened the 2024 season by playing in the Hamptworth GC Level Play tournament last Sunday. The field was split into a High handicap group and a Low handicap group. Anwen started out inauspiciously by losing her first two block games but came back to win her third game against a previously unbeaten Sue Custance-Baker from Taunton. In the afternoon knockout games Anwen won her quarter and semi final games, including beating a 3 handicap player, to take her place in the final. The final was against Tim Stanbrook (Winchester) and Anwen won 7-3 to win the High handicap tournament. Tony played in the low handicap group with several very low handicap players. After a disappointing morning Tony reached the semi-final by beating Dom Aarvold (Bristol), who plays off a handicap of minus 3, in the quarter final. However he lost his semi final and then the 3rd place play off, to Stephen Custance-Baker (Taunton, 0 Handicap) to finish in 4th place. The final was won by Tim O’Donnell(Hamptworth, minus 4 handicap.
