GC Level Team Final Match of Season
The clubs GC Level Team had their last match of the season, at home to Camerton & Peasedown, on Thursday 3 August. Both teams were depleted by last minute withdrawals and started the match with the minimum four players. The first round of doubles was shared but Bath won all four of the second round singles with Philip de Glanville defeating Colin Britt (0 handicap) with a golden hoop jump shot. Sally Helvey arrived to bolster the home teams numbers in time for the third round. C & P fought back to give a lunchtime score of 6-4 to Bath. The afternoon doubles was again shared. Round 5 saw wins from Neil Pinker, 7-6 against Colin Britt, Sally and Pete Miles. The team therefore needed to win one of the last round games to win the match. To keep up the tension they lost the first three games to finish leaving the result down to Bob Hart’s match against Des Back. Bob delivered with a 7-2 win to make the final score 11-9 to Bath. Pete won three out of four singles on the day plus both his doubles matches.
Camerton & Peasedown finished top of the division to gain promotion to the Premier Division next year. We were the only team to beat them.
