A Win for Bath GC HH team v Bradford on Avon

Played on the manicured lawn shared with Bradford on Avon’s bowls club, the day proved to be a success for Bath. The recently formed opposing team is in their first season of competitive play an, many of their team were new to croquet so a certain amount of apprehension on their part was understandable. The match was played on one lawn with 12 games.
Valerie Stanley, and Huw Thomas (both 12) excelled in their debut performance for Bath with clear wins in the first and second half. A draw for Sue Andrew (9) and Mary-Jane Middlehurst (8) provided both teams with a half point. Pam Burgoyne (10) employed good tactics to win over her opponent. Christine Lutman scored a win with Valerie Stanley in doubles. The score at half time was Bath 5½.- Bradford on Avon ½.
The afternoon showed a similar pattern of Bath wins although Bradford on Avon’s Roger Edmonds (14) and John De’Ath (10) started running hoops with confidence.
The day closed with a well deserved singles win for Bradford on Avon.
