Club Host Round of GC C Level Competition

The club hosted a round of the national GC C Level Play Competition (H’cap 7+) on Thursday 28th July. Sixteen competitors from the south of England were split into four blocks for the morning play. Sue Duncan (9 h’cap) finished second in her block to Jill Shaw (Camerton – 7) with 2 wins out of 3. Sally Helvey (7) finished third in her block with 1 win from her 3 games. In the afternoon session the top two in each block went into the main knockout competition, with the remainder entering the plate competition.
In the quarter finals Sue won her quarter final 7-5 against Dan Rhodes-Chaddder (Camerton – 8). She then lost her semi-final to Philip Hendy (Camerton – 8) 7-5. Philip went on to win the final against Patricia Mulcahy (Phyllis Court – 7) 7-4. Interestingly both the finalists had finished second in their morning blocks.
Sue went on to have a very tight battle with Jill Shaw for 3rd place, losing 7-6. Sally finished the day in 13th place overall.
