Bath GC HH hosts final match of the season v. Weston super Mare B team with success.
After such a dry and hot weather spell, unsurprisingly, Bath’s lawns were running extra fast making force of strokes hard to judge, particularly when lining up for hoops. Clearances and roquets often resulted in balls ending up in hedges and bouncing over stop boards making for extended walks to retrieve them. In spite of this, Weston super Mare demonstrated they had adjusted to the conditions by playing steadily against their opponents.
David Channing (WSM) excelled in making two good wins over Bath in singles whilst Bath’s Sue Andrew and Sue Duncans’ singles wins went up to golden hoop. Kate New made a win on her last hoop with a superb jump shot. The remainder of the Bath team were Ally Hoyland, Brenda Fisher, Christine Lutman, Anwen Owens and Mary_Jane Middlehurst.
The score by lunchtime was 7/3 to Bath.
The afternoon play continued well for Bath winning both doubles and 4 more singles. Weston super Mare played robustly throughout, and although losing the match, remained in good spirits.
Final score 16/4 to Bath
