Novice Neil saves the day!
Bath Croquet Club made the lengthy trip to Bridgend to play their second Federation match. With a team depleted by injury & holidays, stand in captain Pete Miles called up novice Neil Pinker for his first match ever in the competition. Glamorgan fielded a strong team with handicaps of 1, 1.5 and 3.5 compared to Bath’s 2, 5 & 12. The setting was lovely with two new lawns flanked by fields of sheep in the countryside and the rainy weather held off until the afternoon. In the morning doubles, Neil & Philip de Glanville defeated the Glamorgan doubles team by 26-15 and captain Miles came back from an almost certain defeat to snatch a well earned victory in the singles game 26-18. The afternoon singles proved much tougher for de Glanville and Miles, both going down to better opposition, making the match all square at 2-2. Novice Neil saved the day with a trouncing of the third Glamorgan player 26-3 to bring about a well earned victory to Bath 3-2.
