National GC Grass Roots Final
The Club hosted the National Final of the Grass Roots GC Tournament at the Rec on Sunday. Twenty players from a far afield as Bury, The Lake District and Hunstanton competed for the Trophy. The Grass Roots Trophy is open to higher handicap players with the Final consisting of those players who have been successful in the preliminary rounds. Bath had four players qualified for the final. The competitors were split into four blocks on an all play all basis. In the block games David Veal won his block with 3 wins from his 4 games whilst Pam Burgoyne finished second in her block. Ally Hoyland and Clare Fletcher also competed, both finishing fourth in their respective blocks.
David was successful in his semi-final winning 7-5 against Elizabeth Swinton from Cheam. In the final David (9 handicap) came up against the much lower handicapped David Brame (3 handicap down from 8 at the time of his preliminary round competition) of Hunstanton and lost 7-4. Pam lost her-semi final but won her play off match to finish in 7th position overall. Fletcher teamed up with Jill Shaw of Camerton & Peasedown to win the consolation Plate Doubles competition.
