Finals Day & Clubhouse Official Opening
The Club held its Finals Day for a number of their internal competitions, followed by the official opening of their new clubhouse, the refurbished Drama Hut, at The Rec on Saturday 21 September. Some 50 club members and guests attended the opening ceremony and social evening. The clubhouse opening was performed by Dr. William Ormerod, who is a well known and respected figure in croquet circles and was present at the club when it reformed in 1976. He also had memories of its previous existence in 1947. Following the opening ceremony he presented certificates to the winning club members.Thanks to all those who attended and also great thanks to Miriam Bolger, Sue Hoskins and all those who provided such an excellent spread of food.
The Apps Heley Cup (Open AC Handicap singles) was won by Philip de Glanville who defeated Richard Jelly +11 in the final. In the Alderwick Cup (AC 4-12 Handicap singles) final Hester Henebury won +1T against Margaret Murray after a long closely fought match. Bob Hart won the Margaret Langley Salver (Open GC Handicap Singles) against Clare Fletcher 2-1 . Earlier in the day Fletcher had beaten Sally Helvey to win the Whitfield Salver (GC High Handicap Singles) 2 -1. Helvey took part in her second final in the afternoon but was runner up to Tony Curson in the Bath Salver final (GC Handicap Singles League) by two games to one.
