Season Opening Win for Federation Central League Team
The club’s Federation Central team opened its account this year with a very narrow win over an experienced team from Weston-super-Mare. Team Captain Paul Francis had to reschedule the match because of an injury to his knee but the new midweek date meant that neither Norman Connor nor Folke Pope were available. Henriette Van Deth and Margaret Murray nobly stepped in to play doubles in the morning and secured a +1T win, while Philip de Glanville, skippering the Bath team for the first time, got +2T against Doug Norfolk. Neither of the ladies managed a win in the afternoon, but Philip beat veteran Roger Buckley by a comfortable 10 hoops, giving our depleted (and very inexperienced) Fed Central team its first victory of the season.
