Second Win for Parkstone Team
Following their run of unbeaten success last year in the third division of the Parkstone Trophy, Budleigh Salterton promised strong competition when they started their Division 2 programme last Saturday on the Bath lawns. Ian Morrison also started his first game under advanced rules when he was called on at the last minute to step in for Pete Miles and Richard Stopforth. He slowly but successfully partnered Roger Hayes in the doubles game in the morning (+17T) and with Andrew Willis (+10) and John Grimshaw (+16) both comfortably winning their games, a 3 – 0 advantage at lunchtime dispelled the initial fears of stiff opposition.
Ian (+12), Andrew (+23) and John (+7) all continued their good works of the morning and, with Roger Hayes only just failing at the last moment (-2T), Bath could and should have achieved a whitewash of their opponents. Nevertheless, a 6-1 win was a satisfactory result, both for the Club and for Ian Morrison, the “newcomer” to advanced rules croquet.
