Finals Day Round Up
The club held their Finals Day for season long internal competitions last Saturday. Despite the autumnal weather and the occasional rogue lacrosse ball from the adjacent tournament on The Recreation Ground some 30 club members turned out to watch the various matches and enjoy the lunchtime BBQ.
The first match in the morning saw Andrew Willis defeat Roger Hayes in the AC Advanced Level singles 26-15. At the same time Gordon Cottis defeated Tony Curson in the GC Handicap league final 7-6, 3-7, 7-2. In the afternoon a titanic struggle, lasting for 4 hours, resulted in Richard Stopforth winning the AC Handicap by beating Norman Connor 26-23. In the AC Over 14 Handicap Irene King defeated Timothy Cantell. The final of the GC Level Play competition ran out of time with Peter Miles and Roger Hayes level on one game each, both of which went to golden hoop. The deciding game will be played at a later date. At an earlier date Miriam Bolger had won the Ladies GC Handicap final in a closely fought match against Henriette van Deth 7-6, 5-7, 7-6.
