Parkstone Win not Quite Enough to Top League
Bath continued its campaign in division 2 of the Parkstone Trophy (advanced level) by fielding a full team of four against Taunton Deane on Sunday, 16th August. The earlier match at Taunton Deane in July featured Roger Hayes (-0.5), Andrew Willis (0) and Peter Miles (2) where the Bath team succumbed to the hosts by 3–2 on very fast lawns with a decided slope. John Grimshaw (1) joined Bath yesterday and the home side avenged its earlier defeat by winning 4-3, although the result was still in doubt to the very end when Andrew Willis succeeded against Jonathan Wolfe (1.5) +3T. However, Peter Miles was able to go home with a smile on his face, having comfortably won his doubles (partnering Roger Hayes) in the morning and his singles in the afternoon. Sadly, this match win for Bath did not result in enough game points margin to put them in a potentially leading position at the top of the league with home and away matches against Nailsea 2nd still to take place.
