GC C Level Tournament at Bath

The club hosted a round of the CE GC C Level Tournament at the Rec on 25 July. This competition is for GC handicaps of 7 and above. Due to a few last minute withdrawals the Tony (Tournament Manager) was chasing round for replacements only days before the tournament. In the end Gill Clark and Feona Bickley kindly stepped in to complete the field of 16 players. The competitors came from as far afield as Perth(Australia), Nottingham, Tunbridge Wells and Llandaff.
In the morning qualifying block games Sue Duncan encountered a strong group and finished in 4th place. Feona finished in 3rd place in her group and Gill Clark finished 4th in her block.
The drizzle settled in for most of the afternoon but the field carried on regardless of the weather. In the Main knockout the final was between Jill Bateman of Cheltenham and Kate Packham of Nottingham. Jill won a close fought game 7-5 to come out on top and achieve a CE GC Bronze Order of Merit. In the Plate knockout Sue had a better afternoon reaching the plate final before losing to Trevor Charlton (Llandaff). Feona and Gill, both playing in their first ever tournament, battled on to finish in 12th and 16th places.
Thanks to Lynne, Mary, Helen, Valerie and Ally for their help with refreshments, setting up and taking down lawns etc during the day. Thanks also to Bob Hart and Andrew Jackson(Guildford) for acting as referees and to Tony for managing the event.
